Renowned Plastic and Hand surgeon Professor Krishna Kumar spearheaded the first hand surgery workshop organised by KSPRAS as a pre-conference workshop to the 4th Annual KSPRAS International Conference, held in the same month. In conjuction with the University of Nairobi Department of Surgery, formal lectures on a wide array of topics including tendon repair, hand trauma and nerve repair were carried out as well as cadaveric dissections as demonstrations and surgeries held at Kenyatta National Hospital . participants included plastic surgical residents from the University on Nairobi as well as consultant plastic surgeon members of KSPRAS.
KSPRAS in conjuction with the University of Nairobi Department of Surgery held it’s first workshop in rhinoplasty and facial rejuvenation with Dr. Kai Kaye from Munich facilitating. The workshop consisted of formal lectures and surgeries on facial lipofilling, rhiniplasty, liposculpture and face lift. Both local KSPRAS consultant members and residents were in attendance and gained valuable insights into these operations.
KSPRAS organized a flap workshop; the first of it’s kind in the country, in conjunction with the University of Nairobi department of Surgery. The workshop was facilitated by KSPRAS consultant members and attended by residents who were able to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge via cadaveric dissections on a multitude of tissue flap surgeries.
The use of adipose derived stem cells for various applications in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery has been on the rise over the past years. In keeping with current practices, KSPRAS organized its first fat grafting workshop with facilitators including consultant members of the society and Dr. ____ from Germany. Members participated in formal lectures on the latest fat grafting and transfer techniques as well as surgical cases on fat transfer for breast augmentation and management of chronic wounds and lipofilling of facial defects.
The first KSPRAS breast workshop was held in conjuction with Upper Hill Medical Center. Dr Kevin Adams from Capetown, South Africa as well as consultant members of the society facilitated a comprehensive workshop on both cosmetic & reconstructive breast surgeries. Formal lectures on breast augmentation using both fat transfer and implants, breast reconstruction post mastectomy with local flaps & fat transfer were given combined with surgical cases on the same. This provided valuable learning opportunities to the residents in attendance.
